Abramson Center Recognizes Nursing Assistant at 2018 PAL Award

Thursday August 30, 2018

Maria Tymchuk, certified nursing assistant, is the recipient of the 2018 Phyllis Abramson Licht (PAL) Award. She was honored for providing exceptional care to seniors at the Abramson Center for Jewish Life.

The award, which includes a cash gift and a luncheon held in the recipient’s honor, was established in 2004 by Dr. Stuart Licht to honor the memory of his late wife, Phyllis Abramson Licht, who appreciated the respectful care she received from healthcare workers as she faced terminal illness. It is presented each year on or close to August 24th, the late Mrs. Licht’s birthday, to a nursing assistant who demonstrates excellence in providing compassionate and skilled care to the residents of the Abramson Center for Jewish Life.

About Maria

2018 Phyllis Abramson Licht (PAL) Award winner Maria Tymchuk, CNA, is adored by residents, family members and her fellow employees alike. Over and over they praise her devotion to those in her care, which she demonstrates by promptly responding to their needs, giving a kind, soothing smile to someone who is having a hard day, or helping out with recreational activities.

For six years, Maria has been going above and beyond to make the residents on Household B3 feel respected, comfortable and safe. “I like to help people because it makes me happy” explains Maria about her motivation to provide the best care every day. “I like to give the residents attention. It’s important to me to keep them involved in things that they like so that they can feel most like themselves.”

Maria’s kindness, compassion and positive attitude are just some of the qualities cited by her co-workers, residents and resident family members who nominated her for the award.
